Areopolis is the first city of Mars, located within a 7 km crater near Noctis Labyrinthus [97.70416°W, 15.63777°S]. It is located inside the exact crater where The First touched down. The rim is around 30 meters high and provides an easy foundation for the tent construction. In the middle of the crater one enormous building, 1000 meters high, has been constructed, forming the main pillar for the tent construction.

Below the ground a multistorey complex of housing units is built extending even beyond the crater and providing shelter for solar and cosmic radiation. Outside the crater four smaller circular structures have been build, the Fusion Station (domed), the Greenhouse (tented), the Physics Science Station (domed) and the Areological Science Station (tented). All four are connected to the underground complex. The Fusion Station and the Greenhouse aren't accessible for the general public. A fifth structure is the landing platform which is also connected to underground Areopolis.

No cars or other private transport are allowed inside the city, everybody uses public transport, mostly conveyor-belts. Faster transport is provided by hovercabins, small maglev cabins. They can travel horizontally, diagonally and even vertically.

Areopolis is the first Martian city. It started out as a small research station. In 2026 multiple habs were connected creating a small village. Then in 2038 the whole crater was tented, making the old hab complex useless. The hab complex is still there, inside a 100 m high glass pyramid, the Martian Museum.

When Areopolis was still a village people only stayed there for one to two years. When the crater was tented Areopolis became a city, providing room for almost 500.000 people, so the immigration started. Four new cities are scheduled for the next 10 years.
